The next chapter of my life..

If you’re reading this, chances are you’ve already noticed the new design I’ve added overnight. I thought it was time to change the design of my blog to more reflect the next part of the journey in my life.

As many of you may know from talking to me, My currently plan is to graduate then travel a to the USA to visit friends and travel the country determining if that would be a suitable place for me to call home. I was born here in Australia and have lived here my whole life, don’t get me wrong there are some things that definitely are a benefit of living in this country such as health care. However the things I care about, mostly technology as that’s the field I work in this country is NOT the right place to live. On so many things we are behind, Most of the country is currently fine with their ADSL2+ service we receive here but the truth of it is our country doesn’t run as fast as I would like to run my life. I’m more of a New York City kind of person. I like things to move fast and hate it when things move slowly, I don’t have time to relax and take things easy there’s just too much to do. So I can’t handle slow internet speeds of 500 kB/s when for my job I will need around 10 mB/s just to get things done fast enough. The country is finally fixing this problem however with the recent election making sure Labor stayed in power. The NBN will be a slow and long process though. It could be years until I have that type of connection in my area.

Many of you may not know this but I’m currently in a long distance relationship with someone in the United States. We have been together 1 year and 2 months now. On my travels around the United States I’m sure my paths will cross with my partner (Or at least I hope they do). Currently I’m thinking about living on the west coast of the United States if anywhere, maybe Seattle as it has always looked like a lovely place, however I won’t know this for sure until I visit and determine this for myself.

I have suffered with depression for a few years now along with many other things (See my Illnesses page), Looking forward in life and planning ahead seems to be a problem I have. I have never seen myself as the family type of person, I think the lifestyle of just living with my partner suits me more. In saying that though, Not once have I seen myself in any of visions that I might have for my future. I haven’t really seen myself living past the age of 25 when I think ahead. I really don’t know why this is so to rectify this I have made a few plans to carry out over the next few years. One of those is as I’ve only just mentioned to travel to the United States. Secondly I would like to travel to Europe and see that side of the world as there is just so many things I’m interested in over there and thirdly move countries even if it isn’t permanent, just for a few years to experience a different culture.

Lately I have also though about trying to get a part time job and getting an apartment in Adelaide to live in. However upon looking at prices this is just an insane idea. For $395 a week here you can get a really crappy looking place that looks like hell when for $400 you can easily get one of the nicest places around and it comes furnished. In saying all this though, I compared the prices of Adelaide apartments to ones in New York for example and the prices are almost identical. I have been trying to work out for the past few days why the prices here are so high, they’re always trying to get more people to move to the city however the prices don’t appeal to anyone. If I was paying that much money a week for an apartment I would darn well want to be living in NYC as it would have so much more to offer. There’s also the actual hard part of me finding a job and being able to keep it in my current state with all my issues. I expect it could be a very long and painful process involving many jobs until I could find one that suited me, or there’s always the case of NOT being able to find a job that suits me and then what do I do? I wouldn’t really be able to afford to live anywhere.

I won’t drain on any longer, but feel free to leave your comments below. They would be greatly appreciated and stay tuned for more posts related to my travels! I’m currently in the middle of making plans!

Plans are good. My favourite year 7 graduation talk quoted research about the financial, social and emotional success related to goal setting. Good luck!!
